I Wasn’t Drunk, It Was Just Bad Driving . . .

12 Sep

The New York Knicks’ Jason Kidd(formerly the Dallas Mavericks) will be fighting his DWI charge. Over the summer Kidd ran his SUV into a telephone pole in the Hamptons. If he is found guilty he could spend up to year in jail. Despite telling the cops when they arrived that he had “had a few drinks” and slurring his words he somehow managed not to take any blood alcohol tests. So now they are trying to claim he wasn’t really that intoxicated to lessen the charges.

We will see how that goes. It is definitely not the way you want to start off at a new team.

Grieving the Loss of Linsanity

20 Jul

While some New York Knicks fans could have cared less about Jeremy Lin there were others that have suffered. They have a void in their lives that can only be filled by yet another parody song of “Somebody I Used to Know.” Although I think this is a funny video it is no where near the level of “Kobe That I Used to Know.” Watch and enjoy!

Grant Hill Will Be A Clipper

17 Jul

It is hard to believe that Grant Hill is still playing basketball. I remember him from his days at Duke when I was kid. The now 39-year old Phoenix Suns’ small forward has signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. Both Lakers and Knicks were interested in nabbing Hill. The Clippers are really rounding out their team. They also nabbed Jamal Crawford from the Portland Trail Blazers.

Not to mention that Lamar Odom spark that they already added.

Losing Lin: NY’s Big Mistake

16 Jul

Just two days ago it seemed like a sure thing that Jeremy Lin would be returning to the New York Knicks. That was until the Houston Rockets up the anti and increased their offer to Lin. Reports stated that the original offer was for $28 million with $19.5 million guaranteed  for four-years. The new offer is a three-year deal for $25 million with $15 million in the 3rd year. Now reports are saying that the Knicks are not planning to match the offer.

On Saturday the Knicks acquired point guard Raymond Felton from the Portland Trail Blazers. Leaving everyone wondering where does that leave Lin? It’s not like the Knicks need three point guards, Jason Kidd being another point guard addition. If the Knicks did decide to keep Lin they are looking at a luxury tax for the 2013-14 season. The luxury tax is a tax given to teams when they exceed the salary cap. To avoid paying the luxury tax the Knicks probably won’t resign Lin. But in reality is the bloated spending elsewhere that is putting the Knicks in jeopardy of the tax. Blaming Lin for the tax is like adding a quarter to a sinking ship and blaming it for putting it under water.

When Knick Carmelo Anthony heard about the Rockets’ offer to Lin he immediately said it was way too much. Apparently Anthony forgot how much money Lin brings in off the court in jersey sales, ticket sales, etc. Since Lin became a star the Knicks’ market capitalization (the value of the company) is up nearly $600 million. I think that proves that Lin is worth the extra money. And how stupid do you have to be to give away that much money?

When Rich Drunk People Don’t Call Cabs

16 Jul

When will millionaire celebrities learn to call a cab when they get wasted? Or better yet when will their people mooching off them friends learn to do it for them. The Knicks’ newest point guard addition Jason Kidd was a arrested on Sunday morning. He apparently had a little too much fun at night club in the Hampton’s. After which he drove his car into a telephone pole. His friends said they tried to stop him. If you really wanted to stop him you could have just taken his keys. I’m sure he would have thanked you for it later.

Trade Talks: So Where is Everyone Going?

14 Jul

It’s been a crazy trading season, like usual, so I have decided to give you an easy rundown on what is happening. Here is your trade cheat sheet.

Boston Celtics

Ray Allen bid farewell to the team in order to warm the bench in South Beach with the Miami Heat. Or as some fans refer to Allen he sold his soul to the devil. But don’t worry the Celtics have managed to hold on to big man Kevin Garnett. I know what you are thinking but Garnett is like 36 but don’t forget he can still do fist push-ups so he’s good for at least another season. The Celtics also managed to hold onto Brandon Bass, Chris Wilcox and Jeff Green. Although Green has been out to due heart surgery he may just be the it scoring factor the Celtics need.

They are still in the process of acquiring Jason Terry from the Dallas Mavericks but the paperwork should be done by the end of the week.  So don’t worry they will be fine without Allen.

The Miami Heat

Obviously the Heat are in a great position. They are coming off their championship win and they have all three major players still in place: LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh. Now they just have to hope no one gets injured. They are now just padding their bench with veteran players. Allen is the perfect example of this. Joining Allen they added Washington Wizard Rashard Lewis. Both were former Seattle Supersonic players back in the day.

One thing is clear the Heat are looking for another championship win next year.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers obviously need to replace point guard Ramon Sessions since he didn’t intend to return. And aside from that the after being knocked out of the second round of the Playoffs it was obvious something needed to change. So the Lakers brought in veteran Phoenix Sun point guard Steve Nash. We can only hope he is more comfortable on the court than he looked at the ESPY awards the other night. The Lakers also managed to hold onto Devin Ebanks for another year.

Now the question is will the Lakers end up with Dwight Howard? Up until today it was looking like the Houston Rockets were going to get Howard but now the Lakers seem to be back in the mix. There is nothing official about what the deal would look like. Everyone has speculated that Andrew Bynum would be exiting as part of the deal. As a Laker fan I would gladly take Howard over Bynum even if it’s only for a year.

ESPN Body Issue, Celebrates Sports?

10 Jul

The 4th Annual ESPN Magazine body issue is coming out. According to ESPN it is a “celebration of the athletic form.” Umm yeah sure because we can’t celebrate that while they are wearing clothes. I mean it’s obviously pandering to all of us gawkers who want to see our favorite athletes naked. I’m not complaining just saying let’s call it what it is.

The cover of this issue goes to New England Patriot Rob Gronkowski. You may remember him as the guy who dancing after losing the Super Bowl while Tom Brady was home crying. He is also the same guy who was caught taking photos with a porn star back in 2011. So basically he is the anti-Tebow.

The other cover possibility was the New York Knicks’ Tyson Chandler. I’ll let you guys decide who you think should have gotten it. If you pick up the issue you can see 27 almost nude athletes. Which if anything will motivate you to go to the gym.

Shut Up or Buck Up

26 Jun

I am often amused by the NBA’s morality standards. Make someone bleed from the head during a game, fine. But don’t you dare use nasty language toward heckling fans. I am not defending the language that Amar’e Stoudemire used to describe a fan but I do think he had a right to do it. It was bad enough dealing with heckling fans in person now athletes have to listen to them on Twitter. Stoudemire is being fined $50,000 for insulting a fan over twitter.

The fanasshole @BFerrelli said, “better come back a lot stronger and quicker to make up for this past season.” Stoudemire responded personally to the fan, “F*** you. I don’t have to do any thing f**.” If you are having trouble with the stars, I give you a hint the first one rhymes with duck and the second rhymes with hag. admittedly this season was not a high note for Stoudemire. He averaged 17.5 points and 7.8 rebounds for New York Knicks this season which is low for him. But at the same time his brother died, he struggled through injury and he punched a fire extinguisher. So let’s just give the guy some time to recover from all of this before you start riding him about next season.

As for other NBA stars who have been caught using the other f word and fined, why not think of a new curse word. Something that won’t cost you $50,000.
