Shocker: USA beats France in Basketball

29 Jul

For those of you up early enough to watch Team USA kick Tony Parker’s France’s ass in basketball, it was an okay game. USA won the game, 98-71. France was seen a more viable competitor because of Tony Parker’s presence but alas it wasn’t enough to move past the Dream Team Status Quo Team. In his first appearance at the Olympics Kevin Durant was the star. Durant scored 22 points and had 9 rebounds. Despite the star power it was a clumsy game with 14 turnovers and 26 fouls. Team USA has one big advantage- the best bench ever. When your bench players are Anthony Davis you know you are in a good place.

Durant was definitely more motivated since his loss with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals. LeBron James finished the game with 9 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds. Although James’ stats don’t sound amazing . . . he did only play for 24 minutes.

France was lucky to even have Parker who almost missed the game after the Chris Brown glass in the eye incident. To protect his eyes Parker was forced to sport some nerd chic goggles. Parker not only had to go through eye surgery but also was confined to a hotel room for a week so that probably affected his game.

The highlight of the game for some was the hug and pat on the back from First Lady Michelle Obama. The next game Team USA plays is against Tunisia(it’s in the northern part of Africa) on Tuesday.

They Call it a Nike Brow

16 Jul

Number 1 draft pick Anthony Davis is now endorsing Nike. What convenient timing Nike has. . . it’s not like Davis just took Blake Griffin’s place on Team USA. Davis has been known in the past to sport exclusive Nike shoes. I bet he is happy he is getting them for free now. This boy is business smart because he already trademarked his unibrow. Yes you can no longer say “Fear the Brow,” without ponying up some cash.

Not to mention he is already selling “Nike Swoosh Unibrow” prints. With all the money from his brow he is never going to shave it. Sorry ladies. Put down your tweezers.

Griffin is Out, Davis is In

12 Jul

Blake Griffin will no longer be dunking his way over the rest of the world in the London Summer Olympics. He injured his knee during a scrimmage. No one knows how bad his knee injury is yet. He is being examined by the Los Angeles Clippers doctors. They are now bringing in Anthony Davis to replace him. Unibrow fans can now rejoice.

Davis Injured Already

2 Jul

Anthony Davis the number one draft pick by the New Orleans’ Hornet has sprained his ankle during training. The basketball wonder boy was scheduled to work in hopes of being on Team USA’s Basketball team in the London Olympics. Now it’s looking like he will be added to the long list of injured potential Olympic players. He’s in good company with: Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, Derrick Rose, and Dwight Howard.

This gives hope to Olympic wannabes like Lamar Odom.  But seriously enough with the injures already. I am running out of creative ways of saying players will not be going to the Olympics.

NBA Draft Recap

28 Jun

The NBA Draft which was held in New Jersey, not sure why they couldn’t be classy like the NFL and have it at Radio City Music Hall. It feels like a college graduation except instead of useless diploma they are handed contracts for thousands of dollars. As you can imagine it is a very emotional event for the players. For the attendees it is a chance to get drunk and boo David Stern which may of them did. Luckily for Stern many years of denial have turned boos into cheers in his mind.

As we speak the draft is still going on but let’s face it only the first 15-20 really matter. After that it becomes what’s his name, where’s he from, and he’s be warming the bench. The big winner of tonight’s draft was of course New Orleans Hornets. The Hornets which amazingly lucked out on getting the first pick took home Kentucky’s Anthony Davis. Luckily I only mock draft for the number 1 pick so I was good.

Here are the picks and my reaction(which you could see first hand if you follow us on Twitter)

1. Anthony Davis (Kentucky) going to New Orleans Hornets. We learned tonight that Davis has trademarked his unibrow which means sadly he will never shave it. I am not sure how exactly you trademark facial hair? Does that mean that James Harden’s beard is trademarked to?

2. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (Kentucky) going to Charlotte Bobcats. Kidd-Gilchrist is amazing athlete but let’s face it he’s no Davis. So don’t see much changing for the Bobcats. At least they can’t get any worse.

3. Bradley Beal (Florida) going to Washington Wizards. He apparently has a lot of high character which I think ESPN speak for he is not a thug.

4. Dion Waiters (Syracuse) going to Cleveland Cavaliers. Kyrie Irving should be happy that they got a good player. He’s needed some support for awhile now.

5. Thomas Robinson (Kansas) going to Sacramento Kings. Was really surprised Robinson didn’t go sooner in the draft. He is an amazing player and I think the nicest guy ever. He is helping to take care of his family after his mother’s death. The reporter interviewed his sister after the pick was made and told her that she was moving near Disneyland. Umm yeah Sacramento is kind of far from Disneyland. Too bad David Stern put ax on the Kings moving to the OC, she could have lived in Disneyland.

6. Damian Lillard (Weber) going to Portland Trail Blazers. So still not sure where Weber is or who Lillard is?

7. Harrison Barnes (UNC) going to Golden State Warriors. This is a may be the bright spot on Warriors’ fans day . . . it might just make you forget your coach hooked up with a stripper.

8. Terrence Ross (Washingon) going to the Toronto Raptors. This guy actually didn’t look sad about being drafted to the Raptors. I feel like being drafted to the Raptors is like saying, “You won’t make any real money unless you get good and they trade you or you become a free agent.”

9. Andre Drummond (Connecticut) going to the Detroit Pistons. I honestly forgot about the Pistons.

10. Austin Rivers (Duke) going to the New Orleans Hornets. So yeah now the Hornets might actually have a chance to be a good team. Feels a little like the Oklahoma City Thunder, a lot of young talent.

NBA Draft: Kind of Pointless

28 Jun

If you don’t know today is the NBA Draft. A day when young college players see dollar signs as they give up the chance of an education for the pros. It is also a day when struggling teams like vampires suck their talent hoping to revive their ticket sales. I think the video above captures just how absurd this process is. The draft has become more and more irrelevant in modern days with most teams acquiring talent through trades or free agency.

Everyone has predictions of where people will go. I’m not even going to try to predict. Let’s just say Anthony Davis is going to New Orleans and call it a day.

PS

Will have updates later today on how things panned out.

Bobcats Have New Coach

18 Jun

Many of you either forgot the Charlotte Bobcats were a team or you know that they are the worst team in the NBA. The team which is owned by basketball legend Michael Jordon has been limping along. Coach Paul Silas was fired in order to try to revive the dying Bobcats. Sources are now saying that St. John’s University assistant Mike Dunlap will be the Bobcats’ new coach. Dunlap’s previous experience includes being an assistant coach to George Karl with the Denver Nuggets.

You have to hope he’s going to be amazing since the Bobcats’ lost out on getting Kentucky’s Anthony Davis in the rigged lottery. They are going to need all the help they can get.

Beard Like Harden

19 May

Facial hair is really making a come back for men this year. Kentucky’s Anthony Davis started the unibrow trend. Now Thunder’s James Harden has started the extreme beard trend. Harden’s beard is so famous that there is song about it. Yes, a parody of “Moves Like Jagger” but about Harden’s beard. Now it’s official that Harden can never shave his beard because how would we recognize him.

Unibrow Trend Spreads to Babies

8 May

This is so cute. Awhile back NBA newbie Kentucky’s Anthony Davis took a photo similar to the Michael Jordan “WINGS” poster. This inspired a Kentucky mom to have a photo done of her baby like that. She took the photo to be signed by Davis. Davis tweeted the picture out. This baby is rocking the unibrow that said not everyone can rock a unibrow. This should not become some sort of trend.

WNBA Draft: Yes It Happened Yesterday

17 Apr

As a former basketball player, I just gotta represent the ladies on this here blog. For those of you that don’t know, the WNBA draft was today.  That’s right, the WNBA. Keep reading, y’all.

The first pick this year was, unsurprisingly, Stanford’s Nneka Ogwumike. The 6’2’’ All-American power forward will be a solid addition to the LA Sparks and teammate Candace Parker. While Ogwumike was the top player in her class, many wondered why this year’s face of womens college ball, Baylor’s Brittney Griner, did not enter the draft after the Lady Bears’ impressive 40-0 season and NCAA championship.

This would certainly never happen in mens ball. Players like Anthony Davis of Kentucky and Austin Rivers of Duke are ‘one and done,’ whereas women nearly always stay all four years. There is not as much money in the WNBA, but a player as excellent as Griner could have easily been the No. 1 pick and cashed-in after leading her team to victory. You can always go back to school and get your degree, but how often are you a lock for the best draft pick?

For example, Atlanta Dream center Alison Bales announced she was leaving the WNBA to enter medical school. Props to Ms. Bales, and props to Ms. Griner for staying at Baylor for the duration. However, when a phenomenal player like Griner comes along, she should start a new trend for the ladies and get those product endorsement deals a little earlier, as she isn’t allowed to get them as an ‘amateur’ athlete in the NCAA.
