My New Favorite Olympian- Destinee Hooker

28 Jul

I would like to start off by apologizing for spelling Destinee Hooker’s name wrong on Twitter. I mistakenly thought it was spelled Destiny as in Destiny’s Child. You can see where the confusion could happen. Although you may think that I like Hooker because of her wildly unique name(which if anyone knows the origin of-please write and share), it is actually because she is an amazing player.

Today Hooker helped lead team USA Volleyball past South Korea, 3-1. Hooker had 21 points and 19 spikes. Currently USA is ranked number 1 in volleyball. Team USA will take on Brazil on Monday. Brazil beat USA four years ago so it will be an interesting match.

We will be watching.

Sorry Phelps But It’s Lochte Time

28 Jul

Ryan Lochte took the gold medal is the 400 IM on Saturday. Where was Michael Phelps . . . um well he didn’t even medal. Lochte beat Phelps by more than 4.10 seconds which is like an eternity in swimming. Phelps had said he was going to retire from the 400 IM after winning it in his past two Olympic appearances and he probably should have to stuck to that. Phelps needs just three more medals to tie Larisa Latynina for most Olympic medals won.

Although I love seeing athletes make records . . . I love me some Lochte. This was the first gold medal for the USA.

Team Lochte!!!

Now That’s What I Call an Entrance

28 Jul

For those of you who missed the London Olympics Opening Ceremony last night or didn’t want to give up 4 and half hours of DVR space you missed quite the spectacle. The Opening Ceremony was directed by Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle. As you can imagine it involved a lot singing children and a lot of old timie British clothing. There were many British celebrities like David Beckham(with his shirt on . . . sigh), the Royal family, Orlando Bloom, and Paul McCartney.

The highlight of the night was really the Queens entrance. She filmed a little video with Daniel Craig aka. James Bond. Then jumped out of a helicopter. Okay so it was a stunt double but still. . . it was nice to see her having some fun.

Oh yeah and if you were wondering why NBC didn’t broadcast the Opening Ceremony live- one word- commercials. And if you were on the West Coast than you got to see it even later. Don’t worry everything else should be live.
