Status Quo Team

8 Jul

So last Olympics Team USA Basketball was the ‘Redeem Team,’ taking back the our title in basketball. So I guess this year they should be called the ‘Status Quo Team.’ All they have to do is go there and win like last time. That should be easy right? They have the best talent of the NBA(that’s not currently injured): LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul. Looking at the line-up it is a little troubling that there is only one center, Knicks’ Tyson Chandler. Chandler is great if he doesn’t run into foul trouble.

Team USA just added Thunder’s James Harden and his beard to the mix. Which is definitely a smart move in terms of defense. They also added another great defender 76er’s Andre Iguodala. They will be joining the rest of the team: Carmelo Anthony, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, Deron Williams, and Russell Westbrook.

It is a killer team if they can figure out how to play together. But I would still be watching out for Spain and France. Especially since Tony Parker is all good to play now for France.

And that Makes 7 for Roger Federer

8 Jul

It is a very conflicting feeling having Roger Federer win his 7th Wimbledon. On one hand I am happy as an American. On the other I am so sad for poor Andy Murray. Murray would have been the first Brit(he’s technically Scottish but that’s apart of GB still) to win since 1936. But instead he lost and Federer became the oldest man(30) since 1975 to win. At least Murray put in a good fight. The score was 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.

It was so close that Murray even got angry which we all know is a no-no for the reserved English culture. He even slammed his racket down. I wonder what Prince William and Kate thought of that in their Royal box? Murray started out strong breaking Federer’s serves and calling plays. But in the end he just couldn’t keep up.

So now that Serena Williams and Federer have won at 30, does that mean 30 is the new 20? May just in tennis.

Anderson Silva Wins Again

8 Jul

Remember that big UFC fight that was happening on Saturday . . . . Well Chael Sonnen should officially shut his mouth. As expected Anderson Silva beat him again. And all is right with the world. Silva has not been defeated for 15 straight matches now which is the longest streak in UFC history.

Sonnen came out strong in the first five minutes putting Silva on the ground. But couldn’t hold onto and Silva came back in the second round. Silva got a knee on Sonnens chest and pinned him against the cage wall. With 1:55 in the second round a TKO(technical knockout) was called and Silva won. A technical knockout means that a referee decides a fighter can no longer intelligently defend himself or in laymans’ terms he might get killed.

So there you have it the end of trash talk from Sonnen for now . . . maybe he will want another rematch in a couple of years.
