Shut Up or Buck Up

26 Jun

I am often amused by the NBA’s morality standards. Make someone bleed from the head during a game, fine. But don’t you dare use nasty language toward heckling fans. I am not defending the language that Amar’e Stoudemire used to describe a fan but I do think he had a right to do it. It was bad enough dealing with heckling fans in person now athletes have to listen to them on Twitter. Stoudemire is being fined $50,000 for insulting a fan over twitter.

The fanasshole @BFerrelli said, “better come back a lot stronger and quicker to make up for this past season.” Stoudemire responded personally to the fan, “F*** you. I don’t have to do any thing f**.” If you are having trouble with the stars, I give you a hint the first one rhymes with duck and the second rhymes with hag. admittedly this season was not a high note for Stoudemire. He averaged 17.5 points and 7.8 rebounds for New York Knicks this season which is low for him. But at the same time his brother died, he struggled through injury and he punched a fire extinguisher. So let’s just give the guy some time to recover from all of this before you start riding him about next season.

As for other NBA stars who have been caught using the other f word and fined, why not think of a new curse word. Something that won’t cost you $50,000.

Maybe You Should Lay Off All the Subway

26 Jun

Ryan Lochte beat Michael Phelps again today in the 200 200-meter freestyle semifinal at the U.S. Olympic trials. Lochte beat Phelps by .02 seconds. So not a large victory but we’ll take it. And no I am not just reporting on this story because I want a chance to post another picture of Lochte. I am also not drooling right now while looking at the picture of Lochte that I’m posting. I feel like we are getting into Edward/Jacob territory with this Lochte/Phelps competition. If that is the case I am definitely team Lochte. He hotter than Phelps, he likes the “Notebook,” his favorite color is green(my eye color), and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t sleep in chamber like Phelps. Is anyone team Phelps aside from Subway workers?

PS

Lochte tweeted that he needs help shaving his back. I would like to formally volunteer to help him with that. In fact I will pay him to do it.

Hot Olympian of the Day: Jesse Williams

26 Jun

To continue our Olympic hottie series today we are looking at high jumper Jesse William(not to be confused with actor hottie Jesse Williams). Williams just barely made it into the London Olympics. During the Olympic trials on Monday Williams came in 4th place and almost didn’t make it. That was until third-place finisher Nick Ross failed to make 7 feet, 7 inches jump this season so Williams will take his spot. For someone like me who can barely jump up to grab the cookies I’ve hidden on the top shelf all of this is all very impressive.

Reasons to love Williams:

1. He is Southern gentleman. Originally from my hometown Raleigh, NC. He now lives in Oregon where he trains.

2. He is a World Champion. He was ranked number 1 high jumper in the world in 2011. So yes this white man can jump.

3. Williams is a handyman and when he is not training he paints his own house. I love a man who is good with his hands.

4. He is good-old Christian boy. He credits gives credit for most of his success to God. Maybe someone should introduce him to Lolo Jones something tells me they would be a good match.

5. He’s not afraid to cry when he hears the US National Anthem at the Olympics.

Pacers Say Goodbye to Larry Bird

26 Jun

After Larry Bird was named NBA’s Executive of the Year for his work as president for the Indiana Pacers he is looking to leave. This marks the second time Bird has come in to help the Pacers and then left them to fend for themselves. Before working in the front office Bird coached the Pacers from 1997-2000. The Pacers were just starting to turn around so why leave now?

Many people think it’s because of Bird’s health issues. Bird still suffers from a bad back which makes it hard for him to sit for long hours. As president a lot of his work involves him sitting and reviewing tapes of players or working behind a computer. I think that maybe this contributed some but overall I don’t he was happy with the team.

As you may remember during game 5 against the Heat Bird said the Pacers, “went soft.” I’m not sure what series he was watching but it’s not “soft” when one of your players has caused two Heat players to bleed from the head. Pacer Tyler Hansbrough elbowed both Udonis Haslem and Dwayne Wade in the head. Not to mention Lance Stephenson making choke gestures toward LeBron James while he made free throws. If anything I would say the Pacers played pretty tough, a little too tough. Regardless if the Pacers had made it to the Finals, I don’t think Bird would be stepping down.

Quieter Tennis IS Possible

26 Jun

Tennis fans, rejoice! Excessive grunting may be a thing of the past. The WTA has plans to introduce a “grunt-o-meter” to measure the decibel levels of those sweet, soothing sounds that have been around since the days of Monica Seles. The plan would also include a rule for acceptable levels of noise as well as education at tennis academies and development programs. However, the plan would not affect current players and would be grandfathered in.

I don’t understand why there can’t be a rule put into effect for the current players. The top shreikers, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka, have said the noises they make are involuntary. I don’t buy this at all. I can see making some noise on a tough shot or from fatigue, but these ladies go over-the-top. I’m sure if they started fining these offenders they would pipe-down in no time.

For now, I’ll continue to watch Sharapova’s matches with the mute button on.
