Devils Win WTF?

6 Jun

I think I made a pretty clear argument for why the Los Angeles Kings would be taking home the Stanley Cup Wednesday night. I mean it seemed like it had been gift wrapped for them after winning the first 3 games. I am not hating on the New Jersey Devils for winning, I am just surprised that they waited this long. I am also surprised that they scored so much. It was like they saved up all of their scoring for tonight. The Devils beat the Kings, 3-1.

Adam Henrique scored the tie breaking goal with 4:29 to play. Scoring for the Devils was also Patrik Elias and Ilya Kovalchuk in the third-period goals. I wonder what was up with Kings goalie Jonathan Quick who seemed like he was unstoppable until tonight.

There is still no doubt in my mind that the Kings will take home the Stanley Cup. They will just have to do it from New Jersey.

Thunder Going to NBA Finals

6 Jun

Very few predicted that the Oklahoma City Thunder would be advancing onto the NBA Finals. The Thunder beat the favorite San Antonio Spurs 107-99 Wednesday night. Now the Thunder will move on to the NBA Finals to face either the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat.

There was a glimmer of hope tonight that the Spurs might just prove why they are so amazing. At one point the Spurs lead for the entire first half and into the 3rd quarter. But they just couldn’t keep with the Thunder’s scoring. Tony Parker literally missed every shot he attempted from the field and was only able to make lay-ups. There were no signs of the Manu Ginobili who rocked in Game 2 with him also missing from the field. In the end the only person who was hitting 3 consistently was Stephen Jackson. I feel like this was Game 5 all over again. Parker had 29 points and Tim Duncan added 25 points. And Jackson should definitely get a pay raise because he had 23 points.

The Thunder are just powerhouse scorers. Kevin Durant(who really should have been MVP) 34 points and 14 rebounds. Russell Westbrook had 25 points and 8 rebounds. James Harden took some tough shots again and made his mark with 16 points. It is really hard to see the Thunder being taken down by anyone at this point. Although that is exactly how I felt about the Spurs . . . so we will see.

French Open Semis Set

6 Jun

David Ferrer will join the usual suspects of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the French Open semi-finals.
Ferrer won a tough four-set match against Andy Murray, who always annoys the heck out of me with his pale British skin and constant drop-shots.

The Spaniards, Nadal and Ferrer, will face-off in a match sure to be filled with passion sexy accents. Federer and Djokovic will meet again for the second year in a row in the semi-finals. Top-seeded Djokivic is looking to become the first mens tennis player to win all four Grand Slams in a single year since Rod Laver in 1969.

Is it going to be the obligatory French Open Nadal-Federer final? I think the Djoker is determined to win this one, and a Rafa-Djoker final has the potential to be another classic, so set your DVRs, my friends!

Will Ferrell Tries to Get Kings’ Fans Excited

6 Jun

Just proof that the Los Angeles Kings’ fan base is a bunch of bandwagoners. Here is Will Ferrell as he tries to motivate them. Maybe it will help people get pumped for tonight’s win.

Jay Pharoah on First Take

6 Jun

Finally the meeting we have all been hoping for has happened. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith and his impersonator from SNL’s Jay Pharaoh were in the same room. And honestly, I can’t tell who is better at being Stephen A. Smith, himself or Pharaoh. Pharoah also delighted the audiences with several other impressions running together. He Eddie Murphy, Denzel Washington and Charles Barkley. I let you try to guess which one is which.

Not only that but he made a funny impression of Celtics’ Paul Pierce running then immediately falling for a foul. Claiming Pierce is a ‘diva.’  In response to this impression Pierce tweeted, “Who is Jay Pharaoh?” Which is probably the best comeback he could do.

Kings Getting Stanley Cup Today

6 Jun

I know the media likes to hype these things up but let’s face facts the Los Angeles Kings will be winning the Stanley Cup tonight. I believe it would take God himself to be playing hockey with the New Jersey Devils in order for them to win. It will be the first Stanley Cup for the King’s franchise. Here are the reasons why:

1. The Kings have won 15 of 17 matches in the post season.

2. The Kings’ goalie, Jonathan Quick, is incredible. He has allowed only 24 goalies in 17 games, which averages out to 1.36 goals per game. He has the best post season save percentage, .950, of any goalie since 1968. Quick has stopped the puck 97.2 percent of the time against the Devils. So basically nothing gets by this guy.

3. The Devils are really bad a scoring. They have had 12 power-play opportunities in this series and come up empty on all of them. (A power-play is when they outnumber the other team because players are in the penalty box).

So now Los Angeles bandwagoner can go out and celebrate this amazing victory. I can tell you being from North Carolina and experiencing the Hurricanes rise to the Stanley Cup, it is a brief affair. Come next year everyone in LA will have even forgotten hockey exist. So enjoy it for this brief second.

Game 4 is Wednesday at 8:00pm EST.

Celtics Upset Heat Again, 94-90

6 Jun

The odds seemed to be stacked in the Miami Heat’s favor Tuesday night against the Boston Celtics. The Heat’s third man, Chris Bosh, returned after a 9 game absence due to injury. We all learned how crucial Bosh was to their game when the Heat lost so terribly to the Indiana Pacers in Game 2. Not only that but the Heat were leading for most of the game and they had home court advantage. In first half the Celtics were missing everything and it really looked like this game might be a blood bath. Then switched into the second half and it’s a totally different story.

By the end of the 3rd quarter the Celtics had been on a 11-0 run. Paul Pierce hit a three-pointer literally over LeBron James’ head, that sealed the deal with a minute left in the game. Now the Celtics lead the series 3-2 with Game 6 in Boston on Thursday.
