Basssanity Dead: Celtics Lose to 76ers, 82-75

23 May

Let me start by saying thanks Brandon Bass. Here I am trying to fill the void that linsanity left in my life by starting a new sanity campaign for you. Then Wednesday night you way under perform Game 5, scoring only 8 points. What happened to the 27 points you scored before? I can’t just single Bass out for the Boston Celtics loss in Game 6 to the Philadelphia 76ers. Overall the scoring for the Celtics was terrible. Celtics scored on 33% of their shots. Kevin Garnett scored 20 points but that’s 9 shots out of 20 taken. Ray Allen was suffering from ankle problems and fouled out in the 3rd quarter.

I have to hand it to the 76ers for pushing to a Game 7. They were really strong on defense. The problem is that the 76ers still can’t score when they get the ball. They missed 8 of 9 3-pointers and could barely make free-throws. The only way the 76ers are going to continue on is if they can stop the Celtics from scoring. Jrue Holiday scored 20 points tonight for the 76ers. It is funny that no team has won consecutive games in this series. And judging by that the Celtics should win the next one. Although they are going to need some help from Basssanity (yeah still trying to believe in it).

Former 76ers Allen Iverson returned to court tonight(no not the bankruptcy court but the basketball court). He was their to toss the coin. Maybe the players were motivated by not wanting to end up broke like Iverson.

The 29-Year-Old Virgin

23 May

Ladies and gentleman, we have a treat for you tonight. Seldom spotted in the wild, we have come across a rare breed. The virgin professional athlete. *Cue Wild Kingdom theme music*

Tebow is not the only one saving himself for marriage. Hurdling star Lolo Jones said she is remaining a virgin for her future husband during an interview on Real Sports. Jones, 29, said staying a virgin has been harder than graduating college and training for the Olympics.

She originally revealed this fun fact on Twitter, which is universally recognized as the best place to search for a hook-up husband.

While nobody ever thought Britney was a virgin back in the day, it is somehow more believable to me that an athlete like Jones is. After all, a successful athlete’s top priority should be their game. Maybe Jones just isn’t a good multi-tasker.

I have to wonder, is Lolo drawing attention to herself for publicity, or because 30 is right around the corner and all the pent-up sexual energy is constantly on her mind?

South Beach Sneakers

23 May

Nike has released the new LeBron 9 PS Elite South Beach sneakers. I have to say I like them but I’m feeling like they are kind of metro. I mean I would wear them, does that say something? I guess the metro thing is cool because DJ Khaled was already spotted in them. You can get a pair for a mere $250 bucks on June 2.

Dwight Howard Can’t Commit

23 May

I thought we were done with this story. Remember like a month back when Dwight Howard was positioning himself to be the next LeBron James by abandoning the Orlando Magic. Then his mother intervened and he should stay with the Magic. Around the same time there were rumors that Howard wasn’t too happy with coach Stan Van Gundy. So the Magic fired Van Gundy to appease the star, although they won’t admit to that. Now despite all of this Howard is still considering a move. Did Howard’s mom change her mind? What gives?

The source who had this conversation with Howard says that he is considering the: Brooklyn Nets, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Los Angeles Clippers. So the field is wide open. If I were Laker Andrew Bynum I would be a little worried that I might be heading to Orlando soon.

Learning to Love Soccer/Football

23 May

I’m American so obviously I don’t follow soccer. For some reason American kids grow up playing soccer but it never seems to carry past high school. I think the real reason Americans don’t like soccer is that we don’t have a great soccer team. As Americans we like to be good at everything. Currently the United States Mens’ National Team(the one that plays in the World Cup) is ranked 29th by the FIFA World Ranking system. This puts us way behind countries like Russia and Mexico. We hate when Russia beats us at anything. Therefore we simply ignore soccer and pretend it is not a real sport. I think this is also why we stole the name football and made up an entirely new sport. With that said I am making an effort to understand and follow soccer.

I realize that coming up with Euro 2012 or the European Football(Soccer) Championship. It starts on June 8th. It includes 16 finalist that will compete. In an effort to dominate the foreign market even more Nike released this funny ad with Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli. In this ad he tries to differentiate himself from other soccer gods through his hair style.  If anything the hotness of Balotelli will make you want to start watching soccer. Who can resist a British accent?

LeBron Wins Everything

23 May

The NBA announced their picks for All-Defensive Team. If you don’t know what that is then join the team. It is basically all the head coaches (there are 30) get together an vote on who they think is the best defense players in the league. They cannot vote for their own players. Surprise to no one MVP LeBron James received the most votes. This is James’ 4th straight year on the list. Joining him on the list are Dwight Howard(Magic), Chris Paul(Clippers), Tony Allen(Grizzles), and Serge Ibaka(Thunder).

The NBA All-Defense second team consist of: Rajon Rondo(Celtics), Kobe Bryant(Lakers), Tyson Chandler(Knicks), Luol Deng(Bulls), and Kevin Garnett(Celtics).

Cool Runnings 2: Hockey Time

23 May

It’s official Jamaica has been accepted into the Ice Hockey Federation. They only have one skating rink and 20 players but are working towards being eligible to compete in the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea. Yes, you heard correct they can finally make the sequel to “Cool Runnings,” that we have all been waiting for. For some stupid reasons reporters have been interviewing Usain Bolt as to whether he would join the hockey team, to which he obviously said no. Is he the only Jamaican athlete they could find to interview?

The Last LA Team Standing is in Hockey?

23 May

Oh the irony that both of Los Angeles’ basketball teams the Lakers and Clippers were knocked out of the Playoffs. And shockingly the only LA remaining is the LA Kings. This is the first time since 1993 that the Kings will advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. Last night in overtime the Kings beat the Phoenix Coyotes. The game was controversial because right before the Kings scored the winning goal there was a knee-on-knee incident. Coyotes defenseman Michal Rozsival was skating in the King’s zone when he was kneed by Kings’ coach Dustin BrownRozsival fell to the ice and had to leave the game. The refs didn’t penalize Brown. Dustin Penner made an amazing shot through the goalies’ pads that won the game 4-3 for the Kings.  Now they are saying that the Kings won but it was dirty. It’s so hard for me to know when plays are dirty in football and hockey. It’s seems like there is  a fine line. All the Canadian blogs are saying he should have been called for it and who would know better but the Canadians. Regardless you imagine the handshake line after a game like this.

You can judge for yourself. Watch the hit below.

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup will be on May 30th either against the New York Rangers or New Jersey Devils.
