Goodbye LA Teams: Lakers Lose to Thunder

21 May

Okay I know going into this game the Los Angeles Lakers were facing the impossible. Only 8 playoff teams had come back after a 3-1 loss out of 208. Those are not good odds. Despite that I believed in the impossible only to be found miserably wrong. The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Lakers, 106-90. It was not even a nail bitter to the end.

Kobe Bryant did everything he could to bring his team to victory. He scored 42 points but it just wasn’t enough. The next highest scorer was Pau Gasol with 14 points and 16 rebounds. It’s now looking like Gasol maybe on the chopping block to be traded. Andrew Bynum is most likely staying with Lakers despite his poor performance tonight. Bynum made 10 points and had 4 rebounds. In his defense he did have foul trouble. The Lakers bench was pretty much non-existent and scored almost nothing.

Compared to the Thunder’s scoring the Lakers look just plain sad. A big three emerged for the Thunder together they scored 70 points. Russell Westbrook had 28 points, Kevin Durant had 25 points, James ‘the Beard’ Harden had  17 points. The Thunder really was a scoring machine tonight. They proved they really wanted it.

It was super awkward though that all of them talked about how much they looked up to Bryant. Am I the only one who thinks that beating your icon is kind of sad? It’s like finding out there is no Santa Clause.

Well now people finally get the match-up they wanted the Thunder verse the Spurs. It’s going to be intense and starts on Sunday.

Celtics Win: Lead Series 3-2

21 May

The Boston Celtics came back in the second half of Monday’s game to beat the Phildelphia 76ers. The Celtics now lead the series 3-2. The reals star of the game was Brandon Bass who scored a career high 27 points for the Celtics. Bass scored 18 of those 27 points in the 3rd quarter. It looked like Bass was going to doing pull ups on the rim, he was unstoppable. Old man Kevin Garnett scored 20 points for the Celtics.

The 76ers came out strong in the first half but couldn’t make the scoring of the Celtics in the second. The Celtics shot at 61% in the second half while the 76ers only shot at 33%. Elton Brand made 19 points for the 76ers, which is the best performance from him in the post-season.

It will all come down to Game 6 on Wednesday. The Celtics need to seal the deal or else we are looking at another 7 game series.

Oh Tebow It’s Just A Little Skin

21 May

Tim Tebow is requesting that a photo of him and cast member from Rock of Ages be taken down off Twitter. Some of the actresses are showing a little skin and he wants it to be clear that he doesn’t support that. Like he told Jockey, “I’ll be in your ads just not in my underwear.” I’m not sure how you sell underwear without showing it but whatever. I think he is just opposed to the fact that the actresses are dressed a little porno like not that hot. Because I googled Tebow and bikini (shockingly no photoshop liking of him in one) and found these photos of Tebow happily surrounded by bikini babes. To that I say as a Christian shouldn’t you love all half naked women equally hot or not? Also ironically the media probably would have missed this photo if you hadn’t called our attention to it, thanks for that.

Orlando Magic Clean House

21 May

Kind of saw this one coming. The Orlando Magic announced that they are firing coach Stan Van Gundy and general manager Otis Smith. Other NBA coaches take note this is what happens when you don’t make it to second round of the playoffs two years in a row. It’s also doesn’t help that Van Gundy and star Dwight Howard had been fighting. Howard really wanted Van Gundy gone and I guess he got his wish. Maybe a new coach will buy more the Magic more time with Howard.

The refs will be happy to see Van Gundy leave. He was voted as one of the most annoying coach by Sports Illustrated in 2011. He was fiery and often distracting force on the sidelines. Van Gundy leaves with a 259-135 record and 31-28 in the playoffs. To make things easier maybe Howard can just pick the new coach.

Team USA Gets Challengers

21 May

It was announced today who the Team USA(whoever that ends up being after Playoff injures) will train against. The USA Select Basketball Team will play against the Team USA in July in order to get them ready. The list includes alot of two notable choices: Jeremy Lin who was out during the playoffs due to a knee injury and Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving.  I’m not sure what goes into making this list but when you look at you notice there are not a lot of high profilers.  I guess USA Basketball is not to worried about their competition.

Here’s the rest of the  list:

Ryan Anderson (Orlando Magic), DeJuan Blair (San Antonio Spurs), DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento Kings) DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors), Derrick Favors (Utah Jazz), Paul George (Indiana Pacers), Taj Gibson (Chicago Bulls), Gordon Hayward (Utah Jazz), Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers), Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio Spurs), Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors) and John Wall (Washington Wizards)

Here is the list so far of USA Olympic Team Finalist: (I have taken the liberty to cross out the already injured and italicize the close to being too injured to play)
LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland Trail Blazers), Carmelo Anthony (New York Knicks), Chauncey Billups (Los Angeles Clippers), Chris Bosh (Miami Heat); Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers), Tyson Chandler (New York Knicks), Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder), Rudy Gay (Memphis Grizzlies), Eric Gordon (New Orleans Hornets), Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers), Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic), Andre Iguodala (Philadelphia 76ers), LeBron James (Miami Heat); Kevin Love (Minnesota Timberwolves), Lamar Odom (Dallas Mavericks), Chris Paul (Los Angeles Clippers), Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls), Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat), Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City Thunder), and Deron Williams (New Jersey Nets).

Most Expense Piece of Sports Memorabilia

21 May

And the prize for the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia ever bought goes to the first jersey worn by Babe Ruth. It sold at auction for $4.4 million. The jersey is from the 1920′s. It just makes me think how the quality of clothes has really gone down hill. If you wanted to buy the whole outfit you would have needed $5 million. A Babe Ruth cap from the 1930′s sold for$537,278. That’s the most ever paid for a cap. It was previously owned by Yankee pitcher David Wells.

I often wonder if old baseball memorabilia is worth more because there were no steroids involved. I mean how much will Roger Clemens memorabilia be worth if they prove he was drugging? We already know what it means for Barry Bonds’ memorabilia.

Tebowing Goes Virtual

21 May

If it weren’t enough that the act of tebowing spread to basketball with Celtics’ star Paul Pierce now it will be available on Madden 13. No girls Madden 13 has nothing to do with Steve Madden or shoes. Madden is a video game that men play to make them feel like they are pro-football players. And as someone who has played Madden I can tell you it is about as exciting as you would imagine.

The game apparently felt they were missing something so they decide to include tebowing. By definition tebowing is the act of dropping to one knee and praying it. It is usually a form of celebration. The creators of Madden have not explained whether or not every player will have the option to tebow or if it will just be Tim Tebow’s character.

I’m not sure how many guys will want to tebow in Madden after watching this clip from Tosh.0.
