Celebrities Can Sell Anything

10 May

This story convinces me that celebrities can sell literally anything they have ever touched. We all remember when Kobe Bryant was forced to wear a face mask after getting a broken nose from Dwayne Wade during the All-Stars game. This mask which was worn for like 2 minutes by Bryant sold on Ebay for $67,100 on Tuesday. In the nice twist this money is going to benefit homeless youth(which there are a lot of in LA). It is still kind of ironic that  mask that Bryant hated wearing ended up selling for so much. The auction had 20 bidders. I really hope they clean the mask before shipping it, it got pretty nasty. I wonder what else they would be interested in buying from the Bryant utility collection, perhaps a sweat band next?

More Bad Rivera News

10 May

The Yankee’s closer Mariano Rivera addressed his medical issues Wednesday. Just last week Rivera injured his knee while shagging fly balls. Wednesday he revealed that he also has a blood clot in his calf. He is taking blood thinners to try to deal with the issue. At age 42 to Rivera is determined to get back to playing next season. He is will have knee surgery and start rehabilitation shortly after. If he can’t recover than Rivera says he will retire.

I think even Red Sox fans can feel for Rivera. They surely don’t want him back but they definitely want him to get better.

Heat Take Care of Business

10 May

It is sad to see the Knicks go but at least one team took care of business and moves on, rather than dragging out round one (cough cough Lakers and Celtics). I think everyone saw this coming the Miami Heat beat the New York Knicks, 106-94. The Heat will now move on to round 2 to take on the Indiana Pacers. The Heat were an unstoppable force Wednesday night with Lebron James scoring 29 points and 8 rebounds. Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade both scored 19 points.

Knick’s Carmelo Anthony did everything he could to try to advance the Knicks by scoring 35 points. It just wasn’t enough to push the Knicks past the Heat. Maybe this is a lesson to be learned by the Knicks, one player does not equal a whole team. The highlight of the game is when Amare Stoudemire fouled out with 4:48 left in the game and the announcer said he had been “extinguished.” And who said there is no room for jokes in basketball?

NBA Playoffs: Clippers Limping Along

10 May

Wednesday night the Los Angeles Clippers took on the Memphis Grizzles for Game 5 of the series. This was the chance for the Clippers to prove once and for all that they deserved to be in the playoffs and they were a team to be reckoned with. That didn’t happen. Instead they lost to the Grizzles, 92-80. More importantly two of their star players were injured in the process. Blake Griffin sprained his left knee after a foul by Marc Gasol, kind of feels like karma for the time Griffin dunked on his brother Pau Gasol’s head. The team savior Chris Paul jammed his finger in the first quarter and hurt his hip in the fourth. If you tuned in for the fourth quarter of this game, it was a disaster for the Clippers. With Paul gone for most of the fourth(until the last 3 minutes) the Clippers looked totally lost. It was funny because when they panned to the crowd no one looked like they were enjoying watching messy basketball.

If Paul and Griffin don’t make a speedy recovery, the Clippers don’t have a chance to make it to round 2. The series is now 3-2, with the Clippers in the lead. Game 6 will happen on Friday back in Los Angeles.
