Linsanity Returns

30 Apr

Since Jeremy Lin was forced to watch the massacre of the New York Knicks by the Miami Heat in game 1 of the playoffs he is attempting to return. Yes you heard correctly Linsanity may come back to save the day again. The only problem is that Lin hasn’t played in over a month due to a knee injury. Coach Mike Woodson is already saying that Lin would have limited playing time to monitor his injury. They also don’t want to injure Lin any further(if only that was the case with Bull’s Derrick Rose). I still believe in miracles so maybe Lin will actually come back and make a difference. He could return as early as game 4.

Khloe & Lamar: No More?

30 Apr

Can we just get the truth already? The suspense is killing me not affecting me at all.  TMZ reported that Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom were putting the brakes on their reality show so Odom could refocus on his lack of basketball career. Now Khloe’s reps are denying that the show has been cancelled. They are saying that they are unsure about what will happen depending on Odom’s basketball schedule. Right now Odom is just chilling since the Dallas Mavericks inactivated him for the remainder of the season. Although losing Odom hasn’t helped the Mavericks much in the playoffs. I do admire Khloe’s willingness to stand by her man and I hope Odom finds another basketball home soon.

Odom is back in LA working with a trainer to get ready for next season. Although there is no telling where he will be.

Were You Aiming for That Bird?

30 Apr

Do you remember the episode of Seinfeld where George runs over the pigeon? He keeps moaning, “We had an agreement?” Basically that bird move when objects like cars are coming at them. It is even weirder when the object is a baseball. Last week a pitcher hit a bird, don’t worry the bird survived. It was during a high school game that pitcher, Ryne Elvers, accidentally hit a bird with a pitch. The bird just flew away as if nothing had happened. Maybe if he had being throwing fast enough to injure or kill the bird it would raise his draft prospects?

The sad thing about this baseball bird violence is not the first case. Pitcher Randy Johnson destroyed a seagull with at 95 mph pitch back in 2008. The pitches always look slower on television but I think this proves they are going pretty fast. I think PETA should be looking into this. When will the baseball bird violence end?

NBA Playoffs: Recap

30 Apr

It was an exciting start to the NBA Playoffs this weekend. I have made a new bracket above. It is super confusing to try to bracket for the playoff since the games take place in series rather than just one game but I did it anyways. Let me know what you think.  Here is a look at what happened this weekend.

Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, 103-91

#Start what you finished, cough cough, we don’t care if you get injured.

This game went as many had expected with the Bulls winning. What wasn’t expected was Derrick Rose’s injury in the last minute. Now people are saying that the Bulls don’t have the same chances in the East. As I wrote before the Bulls have played without Rose before and still managed to win. I think they will continue this trend on Tuesday.

Oklahoma City Thunder, Dallas Mavericks, 99-98

#Durant this is why I got the scoring title.

Thunder’s Kevin Durant was the star of this game making a jump shot with 1.5 seconds left in the game that sealed the Thunder’s victory.

Miami Heat, New York Knicks, 100-67

#Lebron James whining will get you everywhere.

This was such a sad game for the Knicks. Heat’s Lebron James scored 32 points but it didn’t stop him from complaining about a foul. I think we all knew the Knicks were going to struggle but hoped it wouldn’t be this much.

Orlando Magic, Indiana Pacers, 81-77

#Why is everyone so surprised? -Magic

The Magic won despite not having star Dwight Howard who is out due to a back injury. Everyone thought the Pacers would have this in the bag. The Pacers played poorly and handed the game to the Magic.

Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, 99-98

#Clippers have something to prove.

This was an amazing game the Clippers were down by 21 points in the third quarter. Chris Paul managed to rally them back to overtake the Grizzlies. The bummer is that Clipper’s Caron Butler broke his hand during the game and will be out.

Derrick Rose: If Only He’d Worn Nikes

29 Apr

Chicago Bull’s guard Derrick Rose tore his ACL in the last-minute of the game against the 76ers on Saturday. The Bulls won that game 103-91 but lost Rose. As of today MVP Rose will be out for the rest of the season. Bulls Coach Tom Thibodeau(just try pronouncing it) is getting shit for playing Rose when the Bulls were leading by 12 with 1:20 left in the game. Rose was plagued by other injuries this season so playing without him is not a new thing for the Bulls. Without Rose the Bulls were 18-9. That means they still have a chance in the playoffs.

The poor Olympic team is definitely struggling losing Rose. Adidas was sponsoring Rose and man are they bummed about not having him in the Olympics. The only person that is celebrating is Nike senior designer, Jason Petrie, who apparently tweeted the injury wouldn’t have happened if he were wearing Nike shoes. Of course Nike has apologized for the designer’s comments. It is kind of funny that Adidas’ other athletes were Magic’s Dwight Howard and Clipper’s Chauncey Billups who are also out due to injury. Poor Adidas is already the small fish in the shoe pond next to Nike. Now Nike will dominate even more being the only shoe presence at the Olympics.

Redskins Draft a Back-Up

28 Apr

After Robert Griffin was toted around to the media on Thursday we thought we were done with quarterback drafting for the Washington Redskins. That was until today when the Redskins bought drafted a back-up QB- Michigan State’s Kirk Cousins. Even Cousins was surprised to be drafted by the Redskins. This is the first time since 1989 that two QBs have been selected by the same team in the first four rounds. Although it was a shocking move, it was also smart. No one knows how Griffin will perform at the pro level. And it is smart to cover their asses in case Griffin has an injury.

Now the question is are they going to keep Cousins or use him to get another player? I think they will keep him but we will have to wait and see.

Ryan Tannehill’s Wife is Hot

27 Apr

In case you were thinking how attractive the Dolphin’s new quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, is stop because his wife is smoking hot. She is so hot that apparently the media was more taken with her than Mr. Tannehill. There were over 800 tweets about Lauren Tannehill after she appeared on television with her new hubby during last nights draft. She is an aspiring model so this will be a big boost for her. I guess Tannehill didn’t need the fame to get a hot chick. Personally I think they are an adorable couple, just like Barbie and Ken.

NFL Draft: Like Speed Dating

27 Apr

The NFL Draft is like speed dating. Teams are looking for their perfect match to fill a their weak spots. For example the Colts need a quarterback after giving Peyton Manning the boot. As expected the Colts took Stanford QB Andrew Luck in the first round of the draft. Right behind Luck was Baylor’s QB Robert Griffin who was picked by the Washington Redskins. The Redskins struggled last season with scoring and Griffin is definitely going to help them.

If you have never followed the draft before it can be extremely confusing. Here is the basics, there are seven rounds to the draft. Every player wants to be a first round pick. Within a round there are 32 draftees. Usually each team gets one pick per round, sometimes more depending on a complicated set of criteria(that tries to balance out teams with a lot of money and teams with no money). Just like you are shopping at the market teams go in with a list of who they want. Of course as picks happen this list has to be adjusted. Players can be drafted to one team and then immediately swapped to another. (more…)

Bobcats Officially the Worst Team Ever

27 Apr

Witnessing the Charlotte Bobcats fall apart these last few weeks has been like seeing Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez on the kiss cam; you want to look away but you just can’t. The Bobcats fell to the Knicks last night in Charlotte 104-84. Ending the season with a 23-game losing streak, the Bobcats sealed their place as the worst team in league history with a 7-59 record and a winning percentage of just .106.

What could cause this dismal record? All teams had to deal with a packed-in schedule due to the shortened season this year, but I’m pretty sure they all made it to double digits in the win column.  And Thursday’s game wasn’t’ even close! You would think the Bobcats would play 200 percent in order to avoid the stigma of being the worst team ever. Then again, it takes a special kind of bad to lose more than 20 games in a row.

Bobcats’ owner Michael Jordan said he knew it would be a rebuilding year, but I’m sure he never thought it could be this bad.  One thing is for sure, he is going to have to shoot a lot of Hanes commercials to pay for some better players next season.

Durant Gets Scoring Title

26 Apr

I was convinced that somehow despite injury Laker Kobe Bryant would crawl his way to his 3rd scoring title. It was announced that Bryant will sit out the last regular season game for the Lakers against the Sacramento Kings tonight. This means that Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant will take the scoring title. Durant’s scoring average per game is 28 points. If Bryant were to have taken the title he would have needed to score more than 38 points against the Kings.

Durant will be the 7th players in NBA history to win three consecutive scoring titles. Not only that but he is the youngest guy, 23, to ever do it.  Laker’s fans are now saying that it is more important to win rings than titles. Maybe forgoing the title will get Bryant another ring but I wouldn’t count Durant out.
