Bracket Updates

12 Mar

So after a tough weekend of basketball we have our number 1 seeds: Kentucky, Syracuse, UNC, and Michigan State. So this proves you can lose games and still be number 1. Kentucky suffered their second loose of the season to Vanderbilt over the weekend. UNC lost to Florida State on Sunday. Syracuse lost to Cincinnati on Friday. This makes Michigan the only team that won their conference, with a win over Ohio.

Number 2 seeds include: Duke, Kansas, Missouri, and Ohio State. I think we learned over the weekend that we should keep our eyes out for NC State (who could have beat UNC if it weren’t for a series of bad calls), Florida State, and Vanderbilt.

UNC Football Punishment

12 Mar

As a Duke fan it gives me no pleasure to write about UNC Football suffering the consequences of violating a bucket load of NCAA infractions. It was reported back in 2010 by Yahoo Sports that now former assistant coach John Blake had ties to a sports agency Pro Tect Management from which came bribes gifts to certain players like defensive tackle Marvin Austin. This spawned an investigation into the program where they found that UNC was: committing academic fraud, impermissible agent benefits,  ineligible participation (what does that mean?) and an utter lack of anyone monitoring the program.

So now UNC can’t participate in the bowl next season and loses 15 scholarships. With this and Syracuse basketball drug charges it feels like the NCAA really needs to get a better handle on monitoring college teams. Yahoo Sports should not be doing the job of the NCAA Committee.

Manning Close to Decision

12 Mar

It seems that the team tours appear to be winding down for Peyton Manning. After visits to the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals Manning is returning to his Florida home. Absent from his tour schedule seems to be the Miami Dolphins. Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs are also out of the running despite their attempts to snag Manning. The Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers are also in the mix for Manning.  So we will find out on Tuesday where Manning will go.  I bet Tim Tebow is counting the minutes until the decision is announced.

Linsanity is Over

12 Mar

The Knicks are on a four game losing streak and the critics are predicting the end of Linsanity. It seems that since the return of Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony the team has gone from winning underdogs to lost dogs. They just can’t seem to find the same winning rhythm as when Jeremy Lin was leading the pack. It is crazy to go from a 4th seed to an 8th in a short amount of time.

It is obvious that the real problem is Carmelo Anthony. Although arguably one of the best players in the NBA the team has suffered under his direction. They simply play better without Anthony. If I were Mike D’Antonio I would try benching Anthony, maybe then Lin would rise again and win a game for the Knicks.
